Login bot protection for your sign-in pages

Login bot protection keeps scripts away from the pages where your users sign in, sign up and reset their passwords. Bots on those pages try stolen passwords, create fake accounts and run up the cost of the messages your product sends, and the Skycloak Platform plans to handle them on its hosted sign-in pages so that your application does not have to.

What bots do on a sign-in page

Most bot traffic on a sign-in page is one of three kinds: scripts that replay leaked passwords, scripts that create accounts in bulk to abuse a free plan, and scripts that hammer the password reset form to flood inboxes. Each one looks like a person filling in a form, which is what makes it hard to tell apart in your own code.

Stopping them in your application means adding challenges, counting requests from each network and keeping lists of bad sources, and all of it has to be tuned so that real users are not turned away.

How the Platform approaches it

The Platform hosts your sign-in, sign-up and reset pages, so its protection sits in front of every one of those requests before anything reaches your product. Abuse limits are part of the safety work the Platform finishes before it takes real users, and its free tier opens with them in place.

Passkeys, which are on the Platform's plan, also remove what most of these bots are after. There is no password to replay, and a passkey only works on the site it was made for.

Seeing it against your own traffic

Bot protection is best judged against the sign-in flows your product actually has, such as a self-service sign-up or an invitation-only portal. We describe a Platform feature as available only once it has shipped, so a demo is the place to see which protections you can use today.

Frequently asked questions

Does login bot protection replace multi-factor authentication?

No. Bot protection makes automated attempts harder to run at all. Multi-factor authentication protects one account when its password is already known. The two cover different steps of an attack, so they work best together.
